Pontoporia is registered in Liberia and acting in Greece since the mid ’80’s.
The company provides all adequate resources and shore based support in order to operate vessels in a safe and efficient manner and is I.S.M. certified since 1998.
Since its first year of operation, Pontoporia got involved mainly in three aspects of the shipping industry:
- ship management and operation
- commodities trading
- chartering (as operators and as brokers)
Pontoporia has based its successful history on the personalized services, long lasting close relationships with its worldwide clients, private and confidential environment, highly qualified personnel and its ability to keep always ahead of events.
Shipmanagement and operation
Pontoporia’s management and operation portfolio ranges from locating the right vessels for each transportation requirement, financing the purchase of these vessels, manage/operate them with safety and respect to human life and environment, all the way to their sale ensuring an attractive return on capital.
Pontoporia has, at times successfully managed, operated, chartered up to 8 vessels, ranging from 10,000 to 27,000 metric tons of deadweight, on a very high profit for their owners and/or charterers both during picks and lows of the shipping market.
Pontoporia manages dry-bulk, container, and general cargo vessels on a worldwide scale. Traditionally serving ship owning companies (which have been our clients since the company established), we are now expanding and taking in our pool a small carefully selected number of European and Asian owners as well.
Transportation of commodities
Pontoporia was also active in commodities transportation, having established valuable contacts for cement, clinker and grain products (wheat, maize) and is able to work directly with exporters and importers, as well as, to recommend to our clients the right vessel for a specific long lasting employment.
Pontoporia was the exclusive representative and operator of FIDELMAR OVERSEAS MARITIME CO LTD, a chartering company active since 1983 in the transportation of constructive materials: cement, clinker, slag, as well as, various steel products, in lots varying from 10,000 to 25,000 metric tons.
Between 1998 – 2002, Pontoporia successfully completed two Contracts of Afreightment with INTERBULK OF GENEVA for the transportation of 120,000 metric tons of bulk cement, each, from East Med to Gambia (W. Africa). The contract employed sister vessels RANGER-I and SANTA MARINA of our fleet, and tonnage belonging to other (mainly Greek) interests.
In 2002, Pontoporia and Interbulk decided that it would be to the mutual interest, given the universal economic parameters, to arrange the transportations on “spot” basis, until the shipping market permits drafting yet another contract.
Our involvement in the container market came in 2002 when we recommended to one of our clients and they purchased a container feeder vessel. We managed to renegotiate twice her c/p with leading container charterers in Far East and the vessel traded without stop since purchase.
